Sun: Hello everybody. Welcome to our program “Happy Days”. Today our topic is “ Design”.
So… “design” is a normal word. There are a lot of designs in our lives. We can design things by our own hands, such as a party, a book, a dish, a house, or maybe even a way of life. It’s very easy for us to design something small, something interesting. It just depends if you have the mind to do that.
Now let’s welcome three guests in our program today. They’re Zhang Zhengyan, Chaoyi, Ma Zhe.
Ma Zhe, now we are going to design something simple. What’s your suggestion?
Ma: A book is okay.
Sun: About what?
Ma: Well, maybe about all the good memories in junior high. I’m sure you can remember that clearly. It has just been half a year.
Sun: Yeah, that’s a great idea. So, a book. Let’s first talk about its cover, okay? How do you like to design the cover? Are you going to use some photos or pictures?
Ma: Photos, I think.
Sun: With the scenery or with the people?
Ma: Scenery. Scenery of my school. It gives me comfortable feeling and can remind me of all the wonderful times I had with my classmates and teachers.
Sun: That’s really good. Then let’s come to the name. A book should have a name, right? What are you going to call it?
Ma: Let me think. Er…Blooming Flowers. It makes me have this kind of view that all my friends are smiling happily.
Sun: Wu…Blooming Flowers. That’s a beautiful name. I like it very much, suitable for my book maybe. But don’t you think it’s a little girlish for you?
Ma: You are right. So just Happy Days. It’s a sunny name.
Sun: I agree with you. (Write it down)
Sun: Now we have the cover and the name. Let’s come to inside. The first page of the book is usually blank. What should we do with the first part? I think I’ll put a photo. A photo of all my classmates and teachers. So that’s it! (Point at the photo) See, they’re smiling at me.
Then I’m going to pick some single photos and write something down under each one.
Oh…let’s first look at this photo. (Liulu) She was one of my best friends in junior high. She likes making jokes and always makes us laugh loudly. See? She is pushing her glasses. This is her ordinary pose. So I’m just going to name it Typical.
Every person has his or her own story. Let’s welcome Zhang Zhengyan to tell us something about Liulu.
Zha: We met each other in junior high. Actually, I was not close to her in the first grade. We didn’t talk much.
Sun: So when have you two been close to each other?
Zha: In the second grade, since she was my desk mate, we talked more. She was an outgoing girl and I am not that kind of person who likes to talk much. Silent, I was always. She was nice to me. Just like an angel who pulled me out of my own world. Since then, I had more communicating with others.
Sun: What did you usually talk about?
Zha: About a lot of things. Computer games, novels, comics, TV programs… We worked together, we laughed together, we do happy things together. Yeah, that time was amazing.
Sun: Thank you Zhang Zhengyan for giving us such a touching introduction. I think we have known her more.
Sun: Now let’s move to the next photo. Ha, this is a sunny face. Who is it? Well, I believe some of you may know him. His name is Zhou Peijie, the monitor of our class. Actually, I don’t think he was a successful monitor, but a successful person. He didn’t care a lot of the things of our class. When the teacher gave him some missions to finish, at least it came to the final time, there’s no way for him to have a look at the work. He had a great relation with classmates. Though all of us knew that he was kind of foxy and flexible, or maybe a little selfish, we liked him a lot. If not, how could he get so many votes?
I think I’m going name this photo Chubby Face.
(Change a photo)
Sun: Wow, this is a handsome boy. His name is Zheng Hanlong. He was our monitor in the third grade. A full developed boy, good for a lot of things. English, PE and so on. I think he was the most famous one in our grade. Each class had some students who knew him, especially girls. Of course, who wouldn’t notice a good-looking boy playing football beautifully on the court? In addition the court was so small.
Well, I’ll name it Pretty Boy. I like this song very well.
Sun: Here comes Zhang Bojia. Let’s welcome Chao Yi to introduce this interesting person to us.
So… how did you guys become friends?
Cha: It was funny. You know that he was tall, about 184cm, and sat at the back of the classroom. I was asked by the teacher to sit at the back for talking too much in class. Then ‘Bang’, we became good friends.
Sun: That quickly? Wow, it was amazing. En… how did you feel? What kind of person was him?
Cha: He was great. Great enough for being a friend. He likes laughing and talking loudly. Yeah, that made a lot people look at him. Well, he didn’t care. We have this kind of character in common. I think that’s why we became friends.
Sun: Interesting.
Cha: Except that, it seems like we have nothing in common. He likes football which I don’t. And I love movies which he thinks it’s kind of boring. Well, that’s okay. Though we have so many differences, it makes no difficulty for us to be friends. Nobody says that friends should have exactly the same personality. Just because we’re different, we can improve ourselves from each other and praise each other. That’s what a friend really for.
Sun: Yeah. I got your meaning. So… now you’re in different classes, how can you keep in touch?
Cha: That’s easy. I can go to his class to find him if there’s something important, also he can come here to look for me. On weekends, I’ll call him, talking about all the interesting things that happened in the whole week. There’re always a lot to say. Sometimes it’s even hard for me to hang up the telephone. I feel that we have become closer.
Sun: Happy to hear that. Well, can you give us a word that you think friends should be like that?
Cha: Friends are gold. That’s it.
Sun: Thank you for telling us such an interesting person.
Now, we are going to put the teacher’s photo into the book. Look, here it is. He was our math teacher and was also head teacher. We called him ‘Million’. Because his Chinese name sounds like ‘baiwan’. He was a great teacher, very responsible, and taught really well. I remember what he wrote on my graduation book. I’m not sure I can translate it into English well. ‘The school building is always standing there while the students changes like running water. Though time flies, it leaves the friendship between the teacher and students there forever’.
Sun: At last, we come to the final part. To write the end. I would like to have a lot of signatures from my classmates and let them draw whatever they like. Yeah, that’s interesting.
Wow, it seems like that the time is passing really fast. It’s time to say good-bye now. Hope you will like our program today. And welcome to our program next week. We’ll talk more about ‘Design’. See you.
